What is proper food to serve my early afternoon wedding?
I have a DIY wedding above all, and I'm thinking about holding my reception on Saturday afternoon, probably starting around noon and last approximately 4 hours. Do not want to serve a heavy meal, especially since there a number of hors d'oeuvres and I'm a less formal cocktail party kind of feeling. Have a suggestion for a light meal to serve -? PS Vegetarian (no, not vegan) vegetarian options meaning girlfriend would be appreciated too! But all suggestions will be considered!
Well, I am in favor of sitting lol great food, but I'll try to answer this to the best of my ability. Their reception is kind of how we did our engagement party (Cockail outdoor) and this is what works: (my aunt is a vegetarian, so we had options) Fruit Display (Costco, Sams, Wegmans) Veggie tray and sauces (Costco, Sams, Wegmans) Cheese and Crackers Display (Costco, Sams, Wegmans) Heavey Devoured Hor .. you can do or buy at Sams or Costco in the frozen section: Mini Crab Cakes - V --- quiche mini meatballs can V pigs in a blanket of goat cheese and onion tart Vegetarian Wontons V V spanikopita (spinach and cheese pastry - incredible) V Fillet Meat and Cheese Quesadilla Veggie Kabob Chicken Kabob Kabob Sesame Chicken Wings Skewered Antipasto Skewer Hot Crab Dip with Baguettes Scallops Wrapped in Bacon V Shrimp Quesadilla Shrimp Cocktail V asparagus and goat cheese V mascarpone, blue cheese and caramelized onion tart V tricolor vegetable Quesadilla - Vegetables, Rice and Black Beans in three varieties Tortilla Rolls Egg V vegetables ** To be equivalent to an estimate of the full meat hor devours 13.10 per person Hope this helps:)

Wedding Food And Catering - Top Tips
Congratulations - you are getting married! It's one of the most exciting times of your life, and will be a day to remember forever. But, where do you start with the planning? Do you have a marquee or do you choose an inside venue? What is the etiquette for speeches?
There is a whole host of do's and don'ts for weddings, but (literally) at the end of the day it is your event and you can plan it to suit your wishes.
In this article, we have put together a few useful tips which will assist you to make a decision about your wedding food and catering. This can often eat into your budget by up to 50%, so it pays to get it right.
1. Wedding Caterers - This will be one of your biggest decisions so take your time and choose carefully. Firstly, ask for recommendations from friends & family and from your other wedding suppliers.l Once you have a list of potential candidates, contact them about their general price range and availability. This will narrow your choice down and you will be able to interview them and ask for a tasting. Make sure you ask about any additional costs that may be involved so you do not get a shock when the final bill arrives. Remember, that the caterer is an expert in their field but it is your day so they need to fit around your wants and needs.
2. Your budget - This is the important starting point for any event planning. You need to have an accurate idea of how much you will have to spend so you can set your budget and stick to it. There are many cost saving ideas you can use to keep the cost down and you will still be able to provide the 'wow factor'.
3. Dietary Requirements - Make sure you check with your guests well in advance if they have any special dietary requirements. Most good caterers are happy to provide Vegetarian and Vegan meals, but you may find it more difficult if you have nut allergic or celiac guests.
4. Consider the style of your wedding - If it is very formal day then a sit down meal is appropriate; if you are getting married outside then a less formal style of catering would be more suitable.
5. Additional Extras - Weddings can involve a long day, so make sure you keep your guests well provided for with drinks, as well as nibbles. If you decide to go down the route of simply nibbles, cake and drinks, rather than a full meal, then make sure you tell your guests this on the invite so they will be prepared to make arrangements themselves, if needed.
6. Is your budget looking tight? Using your wedding cake as your dessert option will help save money.
7. DIY Food - You don't have to be a fantastic cook to create your own feast. The simplest way to cater for everyone is to create a range of 'finger foods'. Choose your recipes carefully; many of them only involve putting the food together and can still look stunning. Remember you will need somewhere to store them and trays to serve them on. Enlist a team of helpers and allocate a number of dishes to each of them.
Keeping your guest well fed and watered is one of the key things for a successful wedding day. Part of the fun is in the planning so make sure you enjoy the process, especially the tasting!
